“The first work of Ben's I saw was 'Neoclassical Violence'. Ostensibly it is a little golden windmill atop a strange and spindly substructure - it has the physique of a daddy-long-legs but it is so full of holes, the wind would either blow through it or blow it away. It looks like the bizarre contrivance of a cargo cult. Its form originates from a function and its new function is to mean; but what? Its meaning is as porous as its fabric, which is a good thing. It was sitting around our studio for several months. I am sorry it has gone; it was very thought provoking.” Charles Avery
