Artist / Frances Richardson
Information
(nominated by Hew Locke)
Frances Richardson began using numbers as image. Earlier works include ‘bedspreads’ made of sewn cloakroom/raffle tickets. She now uses just the + and – symbols, alluding to numbers. “Frances Richardson’s work has long fascinated me. Her +- drawings have an almost mystical feel. You can lose yourself in this highly meticulous work. Once described as looking like it has been drawn by a nun on acid, this work has an quiet intensity that draws you in and doesn't let go. Her sculptures, an extension of this work, she describes as 'walk-in drawings' and are scrupulously considered pieces of minimalism. Frances Richardson is an artist who deserves a lot more recognition and attention.” Hew Locke
