Following his found/dipped paintings Jeff McMillan continues his exploration of combinations of high and low culture, now using wooden children’s jigsaws that he buys on eBay. McMillan is from Texas and the puzzles have a ‘non-European’ feel in that they are not totally familiar. They are simple, sometimes just one shape. He replaces the ‘shape’ with another found fragment creating new relationships and narratives – simply setting up a juxtaposition. This is akin to process painting/making incorporating an element of chance and selection.
