With oil paint on small canvases Julia Langley simply talks about working within a tradition of women who paint plants in a modest way. She has recently been developing the new acid colours that are reminiscent of Graham Sutherland and 50’s Britain. The pairing of a detailed plant on the ground and a ‘specimen’ plant on a colour field creates a diptych which relies on the juxtaposition of the two.
