Tess Jaray was a significant contributor to British abstract painting in the early seventies and subsequently made award-winning work for public spaces. In these works absolutely nothing is repeated, every single shape is different, within its context. As the shapes stabilise they are then allowed to repeat, up to a point, and this is determined by a very simple measurement - the diagonal of the square.
