This film is a collaboration between Tim Etchells, writer and founder of leading Sheffield based experimental theatre group Forced Entertainment, and visual artist Vlatka Horvat. ‘Insults and Praises’ is exactly this, with both characters facing the camera seeming to communicate with the viewer rather than with each other, their deadpan expressions belie the emotional depth of the script, swivelling between deeply critical, painful comments into occasionally tender praise.
